Creator of Song of Rebirth and Radiant Memories
Hello, thank you for visiting this website. My name is William Winslow, but many online refer to me as GenmaTheSamurai.
I am experienced in Concept Artist, Pixel Art, Character Design, and have worked on various smaller projects I will list below.

Radiant Memories is like if you took a classic Japanese RPG, looking at it through a modern lens, and blending it with complex dungeons, a simple yet strategic class system, and plot about spirits and humanity.
This game is a massive personal project of mine I started alongside my friend Ashley Harrison, though I was the main creative force behind it. I am the writer, concept artist, pixel artist and animator, as well as the game designer.
However, due to my lack of experience having actually built a game built a game before, what I mostly have constructed are assets. What I have here is more or less what I wanted the game to look like:

Gameplay:
This game was intended to be a top-down RPG featuring turn-based battles, as well as puzzle-based progression. The central gimmicks of this game would be the ability to find these spirits called Revenants that came with their own special power you could use to influence the world around you much like a certain popular series. Those abilities would then be able to be used to explore these long expansive dungeons that would require you to use some lateral thinking to progress. The Revenants would also double as a class system that would allow you to transform into another more powerful class for a set number of turns, giving you access to new spells and abilities. I also planned to feature a difficulty setting where you would have to do some careful resource management while exploring dungeons, and no way to save outside of statues to increase tension for those interested. Paired with a combat where your speed and status ailments play a big part into the turn-order, I planned to create a very strategic risk/reward gameplay in comparison to many turn-based RPG's where you could just blindly power through fights. |
While I don't want to go too much into the plot, the basic premise of the game follows a trio of heroes that work to stop the unleashing of an ancient destructive force that nearly destroyed the world in a burning hellscape thousands of years ago.
While this is a fairly common concept, the story will have it's own spins on things. One thing I want to have strongly developed, is a sense of world-building, and a feeling of discovery from the player. I want the player to even be able to do some things out of order, and I made the world map fairly compact to make that easier to do. I also want to instill a sense that this land is very lived in, and that you want to learn more about the people in the world. |
The reason the game itself has not been developed, is largely due to a lack of experience from the core team, such as myself. Ashley Harrison spent a while coding the battle system, but has since been caught up with jobs and a family. As for myself, I just did not have the experience to code from the ground up.
I 100% intend to make this game a reality one day. Honestly I have sunk too much time into it at this point, and it's become my baby. That said, I have learned a lot from the experience, and once I have obtained even more experience in the field and have the time and funding, I will get this game made.

Song of Rebirth is a webcomic taking inspiration from Japanese Shounen anime and manga. Set in a world where people can bend the elements to their will through mastery of music; The story follows a Samurai named Genma as he travels the land of Saisei. in search of a evil organization within the shadows.
Similar to Radiant Memories, this was a bit of a passion project of mine. The main difference being that I stopped this one largely because I realized I had major issues with where the overall plot was going, as it was one I conceived a while ago.
However, this is where my online namesake originated, and I still quite like the characters I created and the world concept. Similar to Radiant Memories, I also want to revisit this, but I think I want to take it in a very different direction. However, I am still very proud of the art I created and if I were to make a new version today, I think I'd definitely have to push myself. I spent a year creating three 50 page chapters on my free time, and if anything, I think this shows how dedicated I can be to a project. If I drew Song of Rebirth today:

My Current Project:
Blados is a game I am currently developing in RPG Maker MV.
RPG Maker is an engine I am very familiar with, and allows me to focus on creating graphics and assets.
The game, will functionally be similar to Radiant Memories.
This is a game that has a duality of a slice of life plot, as well as a plot where these kids in a modern fantasy setting, hop between dimensions trying to stop the villain Nebulin from resurrecting a man that nearly destroyed the universe. This is a game that narratively I plan not to take too seriously, but I want to include several elements of Radiant Memories in this, despite the limited engine.

The game will feature dungeons that will feature both linear and semi-linear design. In them there will be enemies you can avoid if you so choose, however you may lose out on experience. I really want to create an experience of wanting to manage your resources wisely as you explore, and providing a sense of challenge. You can also talk to your party members in every screen to get hints or just some fun flavor text.
The game will feature a game loop of having the home city that you can explore freely, but you can also go to the different worlds as you progress through the story. However you can only stock up on items in the home world, thus encouraging you to return often. I hope you all look forward to it as I slowly chip away at it during my free time. |
